St. Peter's Classical School at St. Peter's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Fort Worth, Texas is beginning its fourth year of operation and could very well become a model for other Orthodox schools in the diocese. It has a rigorous academic program with an impressive record of standardized test scores to provide outside validation. But more than this, the entire academic project assumes the truths of the historic Church. Students study the great works of Western Civilization which provide a profound reflection on man's nature and his responsibilities to God and community; and though many of these works are literary, historical, and philosophical, they also include the theological reflections of such Church Fathers as St. Basil, St. Athanasius, and St. John of Damascus. Mastery of language and of mathematical concepts are the twin pillars of this fine program. Each day begins with prayer, each year harmonizes with our feast days. In short, this school has proven itself in the three-fold task of cultivating the intellect, building character, and nurturing the life of the spirit.
